Dan A. Moore will be ending our concert season once again playing our Bosenforfer piano. This time he will be joined by his long time musical partners from the Mt. Washington Hotel. This will be an upbeat evening of favorites and other pieces from the golden age of jazz. Dan is well known as he has been performing in the area for many years. He studied organ & harpsichord at the Boston Conservatory where he earned his Bachelor of Music. His credits include playing with the Royal International Shrine Circus Band, the Coral Art Society in Portland, ME, the Provincetown Jug & Marching band and the Underachievers. He was part of the house orchestra for many years at the Mt. Washington Hotel. Dan will be returning later this summer with the members his jazz band to perform a second concert showcasing the range of his talent and this amazing instrument.

Borsendorfer pianos are very fine and highly sought instruments. Each one is hand
made and unique with an individual sound. Many have extra keys at the request of Franz Lizst,
who wanted to arrange organ music for the piano, and needed additional range. Based on the
serial number we found on our instrument it was built in approximately 1850, and is
contemporary to our building. To my knowledge there are only a handful of them, at most, in New England.
Two of the few I know of are privately owned and not available to be heard by the public.

Reception following

Be transported to Celtic lands and ancient times through the music of the internationally acclaimed ensemble, Gryphon & Co. The three members of Gryphon &Co. found each other in NYC while pursuing successful professional careers in music. Bonita Lubinsky plays various flutes, pennywhistles, and fifes. Regina Christianson plays the Celtic harp. Stephen Whiteley plays guitars and the octave mandolin. Their dulcet vocal harmonies tell tales of love, yearning, elves and fairies, of hard times and good times. This family-friendly concert will feature music from Scotland and Ireland, including folk tunes, songs by the Scottish poet Robbie Burns, and harp music by the most famous of blind Irish harpers, O’Carolan. Gryphon & Co. has performed in major venues such as the Potomac Festival and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and their music has been heard on radio stations in America and Ireland. Their performances in have brought standing ovations. Their CD, Child of the Forest, will be available to purchase.

Refreshments will be served after the concert.

Sound vibrations can empty/clear your mind, calm your body & add dimension to your life! Bring a mat or blanket to be comfortable and allow yourself to fully experience this magical evening.

This week is a double header in the main hall. The evening will start with Cafe Brazil, Peter Griggs & Steven Silverstein. Peter plays guitar and Steven joins him on a variety of wind instruments. They play a lively program of bossa nova, samba & Brazilian jazz, tunes you may be familiar with by well known composers. Both are highly accomplished musicians who have performed many concerts separately and together and have multiple recordings to their credits on well known labels. The evening will continue with Mainely Clarinets. This wind ensemble comprised of local musicians from Bridgton, Norway and Waterford are directed by Dick Albert. All have had careers as music teachers and have played extensively in groups ranging from local community bands to the US Navy Band. Mainely Clarinets plays an eclectic selection of jazz, pop tunes, hymns, polkas and other favorites.

The Mollyockett Chorus returns to our summer concert series with their special brand of Barbershop music. The chorus was organized in 1996 and is a chapter of Harmony Inc., an international women’s barbershop organization. The chorus is under the direction of Simon Smith. Chorus members come from Bethel, Casco, Bridgton, Raymond, Rumford, Windham, Bryant Pond, Auburn, Norway, Oxford, Hebron, and Stoneham.

It’s going to be a fun night with lots of lively music! Come join us as they fill the hall with their joy and laughter.

The stage is set and ready for the members of the Songwriters Workshop. This group of local musicians who meet regularly to develop their songwriting skills will be sharing their music of all different styles for the evening. There will definitely be something for everyone! Come hear what they’ve been working on.

As always, the concert is by donation and refreshments will be served downstairs in the cafe.

Join us as Gary Polhemus shares an evening of his original music. Gary has been playing music all his life and has experimented with all the styles out there. A talented and creative musician you will hear influences of Jazz, Blues, Classical and good old Rock & Roll. His music tells stories and keeps you engaged. He will be joined on stage by friends for some of his songs keeping the evening fun & interesting.

Local favorite Michael Stackhouse brings his special blend of original music and covers to the stage for a lively evening of music. Come hear uncommon covers, originals, and old favorites. The new CD Pushin’ on the Pull Door is being recorded now! Hear new songs from it.
